Azura, The Storm Witch

BASICS Arga-mux
Name: Azura
Age: physical appearance 4, actual age unknown
Alliance: Alympus
Rank: Major Goddess
Season: associated with spring, but more specifically thunderstorms, hurricanes, and other dangerous weather.
Breed: Arabian
Height: 14.1 hh
Pheno: True black
Other: Wings and a constant coating of purple lightning.
Appearance: Azura is a small, arabian built pegasus standing only at 14.1hh. She is surrounded by a constant aura of purple lightning. Her lengthy mane and tail always snap about in constant turbulence from the static she generates. Those who are close to her will find their hair on end. Lightning snaps off of her into thin air creating sounds like discordant, alien music. If you've ever seen a Tesla coil, that's the idea. If you can get past the lightning show, you will notice that her wings are deceptively large, in fact, when fully spread they are a bit oversized for the pegasus. Seen in the air, Azura often surprises people as she is smaller and more delicately built than one would judge from her wingspan. Whenever she moves these wings, thunder rolls out form them. Azura's eyes are however striking even with her purple lightning. They are the deepest, richest blue, as if two pieces of a cloudless summer day had been plucked from the sky and made into flesh. Those who see these eyes, for which she was named, never forget them.

PERSONALITY

Azura is lightning. She burns hot, bright, and quickly. To say her emotions are on a hair trigger would be to under emphasis how quick she can turn from joyful to vengeful and back again. For the most part, Azura is actually rather content to run in her paths, trace the current of her nature. However, like the storms she was born of, she can be unpredictable and her wrath can be disastrous. But her loyalty and love, that should be cherished. For her, those who win her trust, her favor, her loyalty she is a hurricane in their defense.

Azura is the kind to play favorites, there is no doubt about that. Those who are savvy to this mare's twists and turns might be able to falsely earn her favor. Be warned, however, should you chose to play with lightning you very well might be the one suffering. Azura holds grudges. She will hold a grudge from one life to the next, from one world to its following. Her forgiveness can never be earned — her ire is eternal. This is particularly in the case of stallions who seek to take advantage of mares. Or parents who abandon their children.

Azura is the type who will strike first and ask questions later; or act now and think later. She never looks before she leaps. She is definitely the type to smite mortals who anger her, or screw with the seasons for laughs. Those who succeed at her trials will earn great rewards from her though. For at the end of the day, she has a noble and fair heart.

She has a particular soft spot for abandoned or neglected foals. She would be a mother to any who needed it. She can be kind and wise and helpful to those who are respectful.

Azura is not subtle. She says and does exactly what she wants and there is never any question about where she stands on any matter. In fact, her opinion will often come out even when she is not asked for it. She is outspoken and most certainly easy to read. There is no plotting or scheming from Azura; she is exactly as she appears to be and definitely prefers direct confrontation. In short, if you are going to entice her wroth, you best be ready for it to come at you immediately.

HISTORY

Azura's history begins in the cavern world of Dreamscape, when lightning struck dust and created life. Born a fully formed mare with no living experience, Azura's early experiences were anything but pleasant. She tries to avoid remembering the Cavern, when there was no sky and everything sought to tie her down. These circumstances have left her with very acute claustrophobia. She has difficulty being anywhere she doesn't have a clear view of the sky. And going underground, well, that is impossible for her.

She managed to escape Dreamscape by unknown means. Azura remembers it dark and long, but in the end she was able to see the sky for the first time. The sky of Liridon. Her wings itched and rose for the first time in true flight. But this freedom was quickly lost again, for the young, attractive mare came under the gaze of the evil Mufasa who attempted to force her to be his. He captured her and forced her to join his herd. Repeatedly, he force himself on the mare who had little means of fighting back. Eventually, she became pregnant by him.

Instead of breaking her, the treatment hardened her. When her son was born, a blizzard swept through the lands of Liridon and Azura knew she could not blame her child for his father's sins. She also knew she could not allow Mufasa to have him. So she herded her child ahead of her into the night. While escaping Mufasa's kingdom she came across another abandoned child. This child was obviously another of Mufasa's spawn and also the child of his right-hand and dastardly woman Slender. Azura took this child as well.

The colts were weaned by the time Azura arrived in Nocturne for the first time. In Nocturne, Azura's true nature began to emerge as the lightning she was born from developed across her skin in purple arcs. She was first met by Phoebe of Ferraden and after a few harrowing nights in the constant shifting of Elysium Fields, Azura chose to take refuge in the jungle. At first, she stay under the gaze of Ferraden's queen, Asteria, but found herself relying more on Phoebe. Like many others, she came to see Phoebe as the proper queen and joined in the uprising to remove Asteria from power.

Shortly after Phoebe rose to power, Azura at her side, tragedy struck. The demon Purson decided out of nothing more than malice for youth, to curse her two sons, Heretic (her son by blood) and Hyperion (her son by adoption). So upset was Hyperion by his transformation that he fled Nocturne without a word. Heretic was plagued twice daily by intense pains as his beautiful wings broke down, died, and regrew changing between pegasus wings and theseral wings. Additionally, Azura had recently had a one night stand with the purple king Kamina, which resulted in her second son, Peregrine.

It was at the worst possible time for Azura's mental state that Phoebe decided to go on an extended trip. She left Azura as Regent and though proud of the situation, Azura's desire to run was slowly growing. Her resolve was fully broken when Lamanshu, an underling of Purson's, challenged her for her freedom, intending to take her prisoner to Verona. Azura fled into the night on wings of thunder. Her sons went with her, though all parted ways as age and adventurous natures took them.

It was not long before Azura found herself without lightning, though it burned within her. But it was at this point that she was summoned to the land of Risden. Summoned to take on the mantel of Tornado, goddess of Wind. For a time, Azura was happy ruling the cliffs in her alliance with Khaos of Fire and Marius of Shadow. She slowly started to fall in love for the first time with Fantome, her prestige. He shared her nest and her heart. But it was not to be. Chillmaw of Water targeted him and in the end, he chose to follow her and leave Risden. Azura's heart was broken into a thousand pieces and once again, she could not remain.

As Risden was crumbling around them, Azura felt no connection to the realm. And so, once again, she took to wing and wandered wherever the winds would take her. And ultimately, they seemed to take her into a circle. For it was back to Nocturne that eventually her wings brought her.

Nocturne had changed, it was a broken and quiet land now. Here, Azura joined forces with Caine to take Verona for equines and prevent demonkind from getting the broken city. Caine and Azura enjoyed mutual attraction to one another. Perhaps even love would have blossomed, but it was not to be. Disaster struck as Nocturne was finally destroyed under the sudden explosion of a volcano. Due to her claustrophobia, Azura was unable to flee with the rest of Verona through an underground passage. She elected to meet up with them later, fleeing by wing, but Caine would not allow her to go alone. Together they attempted to flee on foot before the lava came.

But they did not escape.

Caine was dragged to hell as a result of a deal he had made long ago for power. And Azura was cast into a Void. Where someone found her and brought her back to Liridon, where her journey had truly started.

When she woke in Liridon, she was not trapped by a physical barrier. But having been resurrect by the former goddess Rai, Azura was trapped with the other gods in the Valley where their mountain once had been. She did not entirely enjoy her new situation, as Azura is a creature of freedom. That liberation would come soon when Liridon's magic began to spin out of control and the equines journeyed into the Valley to find and bring the gods back. Azura was glad to be free once more, but Liridon was not stable. Perhaps it would never be after the death of the god of earth in times long past, but eventually Azura became bored with the quiet life and parted ways with Rai, releasing the goddess' spirit to go her own way.

When she arrived in FableHaven is hard to say. But the Storm Witch is in many a legend, going all the way back to the beginning of time it would seem. But only in days since the Fosc enslaved the Lyrael rumors have spread far and wide, first on the coastline of Esclau City, from sea-bound traders who found sudden lightning storms and dangerous weather upon them at odd times. Then came a strange report out of Westercliff, as a young mare stumbled back with a story of falling (or being pushed) off the cliff's edge but being rescued in midair by a woman with wings of thunder. Now even more cities are starting to hear of the black, winged mare coated in lightning. The Queen of Alympus has been spotted in flight once again, bringing with her her storms, her judgement, and of course, her power. Who will be the first to risk her famous temper and perhaps gain her favor?

EXTRA
* Azura's titles in legend: The Storm Witch, the Lady of Lightning, and the Queen of Alympus.
* She is also known as the Avenger of the Battered and Patron of Orphans.
* In the past, Azura has not been known to favor one group over another, however recent events and enslavement may change that in her eyes. Considering her primary value is freedom, she may very well come to champion a slave liberator in the future.
* Her direct sphere of influence is electricity (all aspects) and thunderstorms. She also is often associated with natural disasters. Sailors in particular fear and respect her.
* Azura enjoys interaction and is actually rather approachable for conversation and interaction. She especially enjoys children.
* Azura cares less about rank and more about people. She will treat a slave with equal respect to a king. In fact, she has been known to favor underdogs. So regardless of what rank your character holds, if they seek an audience with her, they will get it.
* Because Azura is mostly controlled by emotion, a savvy and cleaver individual would find success in manipulating her. However, should she discover the deception the consequences would be severe.
* She would gladly patron/sponsor a land at some point in the future. These people would have her special attention and protection (think Athena for Athens). They would receive blessings and favors, but they would have to respect her above others and possibly other requirements. **Anything of this nature would have to be done IC**
* Your characters are free to spread rumors and legends about and featuring Azura. However, whether these things happened or not is up to me. I am open though to having encounters in your characters' pasts. As always, hit me up for plots!
